15th Century Bath Abbey

15th Century Bath Abbey

The building of this abbey started in 1499 in the reign of the Tudor King Henry VII. It has been described as the last great church in the English Perpendicular style. Of particular note is the interior fan vault roof. In 1539 in the reign of King Henry VIII, when the abbey was almost complete, it suffered the fate of some 800 religious houses throughout England and Wales in a process called The Dissolution of the Monasteries.
